In the 1600’s the village Myrup still existed, even though it was starting to disappear in the drifting sand. In ‘Hannæs Birk Tingbog’ (a legal book with summaries from the Hannæs jurisdiction) from 1631-1686 Myrup is mentioned as a village like other villages, just as the farm Ræhrgård is situated in Myrup. Several persons are mentioned in Myrup and in Myrup Klit, and it is difficult to know from the legal books who really lived at Myrupgård.
In the first half of the 1700’s, the parish registers mention East ‘Øster’ and West ‘Vester’ Myrup, which must have been Myrupgård and Myruphouse. At the end of the 1700’s, there was a farm in Myrup – Myrupgård and a house – Myruphus. In the 1800’s there were several houses ‘In Myrup’. Instead of Myrup, the parish registers and censuses often mentioned the nearby villages Glæde, Nørklit and Bjerget, even though I know it must have been the Myrup farm or house, which can be very confusing.
After the land was registered in the 1844 land register, Myrupgård got the parcel no. 88 in Lild Parish, and Myruphus got the parcel no. 89, which was situated 500 m south of the farm.
In the Danish Land Register Archive, I found an old map that was the base for the 1844 land register. On this map Myrupgård has 3 buildings and next to the farm is written Niels Nielsen. Just south of the farm is Myruphus with the name Christen Myrup written next to it. On the old map, the parcel no. 88 was (with a newer handwriting) later subdivided into 5 parcels – 88 a-e.
In the parish protocol (from app. 1800-1820) that goes with the map, it said:
Parcel no. 88: Niels Nielsen, Myrupgaard.
A main parcel at the farm in the middle of the Western Klit (Dune) in the parish, north of Glæde By and an adjacent moor parcel west of the village.
Old Hartkorn: Field and Meadow: 1 skæppe, 3 fjerdingkar, 1 album. No forest. New Hartkorn: 1 tønder, 4 skæpper, 1 fjerdingkar, 1 ¾ album.
Parcel no. 89: Christen Myrup, Myruphuus.
A house with a parcel in the Western Klit (Dune) in the parish north of Glæde By.
Old Hartkorn: No hartkorn. New Hartkorn: 0 tønder, 1 skæpper, 1 fjerdingkar, ¼ album.
Hartkorn was in the period 1662-1903 the official basis for land valuation in Denmark and thus for the tax. Hartkorn was therefore an expression of the value of the agricultural land - a combination of the area of the land and the quality. It was measured in ‘tønder’, ‘skæpper’, ‘fjerdingkar’ and ‘album’. 1 tønde = 8 skæpper = 32 fjerdingkar = 96 album. In 1831 the calculation of hartkorn was changed and you talked of old or new hartkorn.
The owners below have been found in legal books, while the copy holders have been found in censuses and parish registers. It is interesting to follow how the ’title’ change through time in the censuses for Myrupgård from ’husmand’ (smallholder) to ’boelsmand’ (small farmer), ’gårdmand’ (farmer - old word), ’landmand’ (farmer - new word) and ’gårdejer’ (farm owner). Before the enclosure movement in the late 1700’s a ’husmand’ – small farmer did not have any farmland, but a right for grazing on common land. After the land registration in 1844 a smallholder was defined as under 1 ’tønder hartkorn’, a small farmer with under 2-3 ’tønder hartkorn’ and a farmer with more than that. The copyhold system was phased out from 1788 when the adscription (stavnsbånd) was abolished/repealed but did not disappear entirely until 1919 by law. At that time there were only a few copyholders left in Denmark.
Until the 1780’ies, when the farm and house were bought for freehold, a bigger estate has owned Myrupgård and Myruphus. It has been a bit difficult to find which estate. According to the book ”Stedregister til Nørrejyske Godsarkiver” (Place register to estate archives in Northern Jutland) the following estates have had copyhold farms in Lild Parish: Bratskov, Oksholm, Vesløsgård, Ågård, Kølbygård, Oddersbøl and P. Ingvordsen’s Estate. But only Bratskov, Vesløsgård, Kølbygård, Ågård and P. Ingvorsen’s Estate have had copyholders in the villages Kæret, Glæde and Nørklit, which are the villages closest to Myrup. In the book ”Vesløsgård – En herregård på Hannæs” (Vesløsgård – A manor in Hannæs) Myrup is not mentioned, and I conclude (maybe wrongly) that Myrup was not owned by the manor Vesløsgård. Myrup is also not mentioned in the list of ”Fæstebønder ved Kølbygård og Vesløsgård” (Copyholders at Kølbygård and Vesløsgård). That leaves Bratskov, Ågård and P. Ingvorsen as possible owners of Myrup (farm and house).
The other lead is the adscription. Lars Pedersen came from the farm Sønder Skadhauge in Tømmerby Parish to Myrupgård in Lild Parish during the adscription (1733-1788). At that time, he could not settle outside the estate’s land without a special permission from the estate. That means, that the farm Sønder Skadhauge and Myrup most likely have been owned by the same estate. Sønder Skadhauge is also not mentioned in the book ”Vesløsgård – En herregård på Hannæs” (Vesløsgård – A manor in Hannæs) nor in the list of ”Fæstebønder ved Kølbygård og Vesløsgård” (Copyholders at Kølbygård and Vesløsgård). In the book ”Stedregister til Nørrejyske Godsarkiver” (Place register to estate archives in Northern Jutland) the following estates (besides Vesløsgård and Kølbygård) had copyhold farms in Tømmerby Parish: Bratskov, Kokkedal, Oddersbøl, Lundbæk and Kr. Kristensen Klim’s Estate. Bratskov Estate in Brovst Parish is the only estate mentioned for both. It had copyhold farms in Kærup in Tømmerby Parish and in Kæret and Nørklit in Lild Parish. I will investigate more in the copyhold archives from Bratskov Estate if possible.
Rigsdaler – in 1873 rigsdaler was changed to kroner and ører, and 1 rigsdaler was equivalent to 2 kroner.
Map of land register from the beginning of the 1800ies.
Myrupgård parcel number 88, Lild Parish, Vester Han Herred
An estate must have owned Myrupgård until 1780’ies. The below mentioned was copyholders at Myrupgård until 1786.
C.1689-c.1730 Laurs Andersen (1644-1730) (I-Forefather)
C.1730-c.1756 Anders Laurssen Myrup (1689-1756) (I-Forefather) (son of the above)
C.1753-1786 Lars Pedersen Myrup (1730-1797) (I-Ancestor) (married to a niece of the above)
1786-1800 Niels Christian Myrup (1724-1800) (III-Ancestor)
1800-1809 Karen Pedersdatter (1730-1810) (III-Ancestor)* (widow after the above)
1809-1838 Niels Nielsen Myrup (1768-1839) (III-A9) (son of the above)
1838-1844 Niels Christian Nielsen Myrup (1805-1892) (III-A9.B1) (son of the above)
1844-1846 Palle Møller Jensen Rotbøll (1807-1860) (III-A12.B8) (cousin to the above, nephew of Niels . . Nielsen Myrup)
1846-1884 Christen Jensen Vabesgaard (1817-1898) (III-A3.B17)* (married to a niece of Niels Nielsen . . Myrup)
1884-1927 Kasper Diernæs Myrup (1850-1940) (III-A3.B17.C4) (son of the above)
1927-1947 Niels Andersen (1900-efter 1965) (III-A3.B17.C4.D2)* (son-in-law of the above)
C. 1689-c. 1730 Laurs Andersen (1644-1730) (I-Forefather)
He was very likely married to Else Nielsdatter (1659-1742). He probably took over the copyhold when his son Anders was born in 1689 and maybe before that. We do not know who the copyholder before him was. We do not know much about him, only that ’Laurs Anderssen of Myrup' died in 1730, 86 years old (1644-1730). Else Nielsdatter (1659-1742) died as widow 'of Myrup' 12 years later in 1742, 83 years old. She has not been found born in Lild Parish. Maybe it is the children of Laurs Andersen mentioned in the parish registers: Christen Lauridsen (1691-1741), who was 'of East Myrup’, when he died in 1741, 50 years old, and Anders Lauridsen/Laurssen also called Anders Myrup (1689-1756), who is mentioned several times in the parish register as 'of Myrup'.
C. 1730-c. 1756 Anders Laurssen Myrup (1689-1756) (I-Forefather)
He was probably the son of the above and married to Maren Pedersdatter (1684-1758). We do not know much about him. He probably took over the copyhold from Laurs Andersen, who died in 1730. Anders Myrup died in 1756, 67 years old, 'of East Myrup'. His wife Maren Pedersdatter (1684-1758) died as widow 'in East Myrup' in 1758, 74 years old. They are often mentioned in the parish register as godparents. I have not found any children.
C. 1753-1786 Lars Pedersen Myrup (1730-1797) (I-Ancestor)
He was born at the farm Sønder Skadhauge in Tømmerby Parish and was married to Bodild Larsdatter (1730-1807). She was the niece of the above Anders Myrup and born at the farm Holegård in Lild Parish, not far from Myrup. Her father died when she was 10 years old, and she then probably came into foster care at her aunt’s at Myrup at that time. They were both ’in Myrup’, when they got married, so they have both lived and worked at the farm. The probably took over the copyhold when they got married in 1753, or maybe when Anders Myrup died in 1756. They had 8 children all born at Myrup. He was the last copyholder at Myrupgård. Lars Myrup and his family moved in 1786 to the farm Madsbøll in Hjardemål Parish and took over the copyhold there.
1786-1800 Niels Christian Myrup (1724-1800) (III-Ancestor)
He was married to Karen Pedersdatter (Kold) (1730-1810). According to a deed of 8th of June 1786 he bought ”a place called Myrup” from Thøger Pedersen Buckhauge from Vust Parish (1734-1787). I do not know yet from who Thøger Pedersen Buckhauge or Buck had bought the farm or when. Thøger Pedersen was born in Morsø Parish and lived in Vust at the time of the sale. Hartkorn (old) was 1 skæppe, 3 fjerdingkar and 1 album. Purchase price 395 rigsdaler. Niels Christian Pedersen (Myrup) came from the farm Diernæs in Lild Parish, which his son took over. According to the census from 1787 they lived in Nørklit (i.e. Myrupgård), and he was a farmer, smallholder and fisherman, with 4 children and a servant girl. They had 12 children, and their youngest took over the farm Myrupgård.
1800-1809 Karen Pedersdatter (1730-1810) (III-Ancestor)*
She was the widow of the above Niels Christian Myrup, who died ’in Myrup’ in 1800. According to the census 1801 she lived in Nørklit (i.e. Myrupgård) and was a widow and smallholder with land. She lived with her youngest son, unmarried, and a farmhand and a servant girl. She died ’at Myrupgård’ in 1810. There must be a legal document that gives her title to the farm after her husband’s death, but I have not found it yet.
1809-1838 Niels Nielsen Myrup (1768-1839) (III-A9)
He was the youngest son of the above Niels Christian Myrup. He was also called Niels Christian Nielsen Myrup or Niels Myrup and was married around 1804 to Mette Mortensdatter (Thorhauge) (1783-1848). Deed of 13th of June 1809 from Karen Pedersdatter, the widow after Niels Christian Pedersen ”a place called Myrup”. Hartkorn (old) 1 skæppe, 3 fjerdingkar og 1 album. Purchase price 400 rigsdaler. According to the census 1834 they lived in ”Myrup, a small farm, making a living by his land”, with 7 children and no servants. They had 15 children and the oldest son took over the farm. Niels Nielsen Myrup and Mette Mortensdatter both died ’in Myrup’.
1838-1844 Niels Christian Nielsen Myrup (1805-1892) (III-A9.B1)
He was the oldest son of the above III-A9 Niels Nielsen Myrup and got married in 1829 to Maren Christensdatter (1796-1878) from Lild Parish. In the deed of 23rd of August 1838 from Niels Myrup it says ”...to my son Niels Christian Nielsen...” and ”...with pension to me and my wife.”. Hartkorn (old) 1 skæppe, 3 fjerdingkar and 1 album. Purchase price 400 rigsdaler.
According to the census 1840 they lived in ’Myrup, a house’, as a smallholder with Maren Christensdatter’s son of first marriage and a servant girl. It is the only house or farm named Myrup in that census. His mother Mette Mortensdatter, a widow, did not live together with them at Myrupgård, even though she had the right to have pension there. She lived in a house in Vesten Bjerget nearby, with a daughter. In 1845 she lived at Myrupgård again on pension with the new residents, her husband’s niece and her husband. I do not know the reason why she did not live at the farm even though she had the right to have pension at the farm. It could be a fascination story, but we will never know. In 1844 Niels Christin Nielsen sold the farm to his cousin, and in 1845 they had moved to Bjerget, where he was a smallholder. Later they bought a house in Glæde. Apparently, they did not get any children.
1844-1846 Palle Møller Jensen Rotbøll (1807-1860) (III-A12.B8)
He was the above III-A9 Niels Nielsen Myrup’s sister’s son and III-A9.B1 Niels Christian Nielsen’s cousin. Deed of 24th of June from Niels Christian Nielsen of ”a farm, called Myrup”. Hartkorn (old) 1 skæppe, 3 fjerdingkar and 1 album. Purchase price 700 rigsdaler. He was not married. According to the census from 1845 he lived at his brother Jens Jensen Rotbøll’s farm Rotbøll and not at Myrupgård. At Myrupgård ‘Myrup, a farm’ lived the below mentioned farmer Christen Jensen Vabesgaard and his wife Caroline Larsdatter Diernæs. She was III-A9 Niels Nielsen Myrup’s brother’s daughter and therefore the cousin of both Palle Møller Rotbøll and Niels Christian Nielsen. Niels Nielsen Myrup’s widow Mette Mortensdatter lived on pension with them. She had moved back to the farm before 1845. Palle Møller Jensen Rotbøll sold the farm to Christen Jensen Vabesgaard.
1846-1884 Christen Jensen Vabesgaard (1817-1898) (III-A3.B17)*
The above mentioned III-A9 Niels Nielsen Myrup was his father-in-law’s brother. He was married to III-A3.B17 Caroline Larsdatter Diernæs (1817-1864) from the farm Diernæs. They got married 5th of November 1844 and were living at Myrupgård, because according to the parish register he was ’owner of Myrup’, when they got married, but this is not correct. Deed of 30th of June 1846 from Palle Møller Jensen Rotbøll of ”...the to me belonging farm called Myrup”. He also took over the obligation of the pension for Niels Myrup’s widow. New hartkorn 1 tønde, 4 skæpper, 1 fjerdingkar and 1¾ album. Purchase price 900 rigsdaler.
It is interesting that Niels Christian Nielsen did not sell the farm directly to his cousin’s husband Christen Vabesgaard, as he obviously lived and worked at the farm Myrup in 1844. But maybe it was a matter of money or timing.
In 1876 Christen Vabesgaard bought several parcels to the farm – parcel no. 27b, 29g, 30g and in 1881 also 2c. In 1858 he sold parcel no. 88b (look under Little Myruphus) and in 1881, parcel no. 88d and 88e (look under Myruphus). In 1887 he sold parcel no. 29g. According to the census 1845 they lived at ’Myrup, a farm’, where he was a farmer. They had III-A9 Niels Nielsen’s widow Mette Mortensdatter living on pension, a farmhand and a servant girl. In 1850 the lived at ’Myrup, a farm, where he ”is making a living from his land”. They had 2 children, a farmhand and a servant girl. In 1855 they lived in ‘Glæde, Myrup, a farm’ and had 4 children, a farmhand and his wife’s brother who was a cattle trader staying. In 1870 Christen Vabesgaard, now a widower, lived in ’Glæde, Myrupgaard’, and he was a farmer. He had 3 of his 4 sons living with him and a servant girl, who was his wife’s brother’s daughter.
1884-1927 Kasper Diernæs Myrup (1850-1940) (III-A3.B17.C4)
He was son of the above Christen Jensen Vabesgaard. He got married in 1892 to Christine Hansen (Ræhrgaard) (1856-1943). Deed of 30th of June 1884 of ”...the to me belonging farm called Myrup”, parcel no. 88a and 88c, 27b and 2c from Christen Jensen Vabesgaard for 4400 kroner. In 1890 he sold parcel no. 27b, in 1899 parcel no. 2c, in 1909 parcel no. 2i, in 1919 parcel no. 2g, in 1921 parcel no. 2k and in 1925 parcel no. 2d. According to the census 1890 he was farmer, unmarried and he had his father on pension. Also, his cousin Maria Caspersdatter lived and worked here as a housekeeper. In the 1901 census: Myrup, Myrupgaard, parcel no. 88a. In the 1906 census: Lild Klit, Myrupgaard, parcel no. 88a. In the 1911 census: Lild Klit, Myrupgaard, parcel no. 88. They had 2 children. They must have had his mother’s cousin III-A9.B1 Niels Christian Nielsen living on pension after 1890, because he died at Myrupgård in 1892. In 1916 they had widower Niels Christian Jensen Holme (1835-1920) living there on pension.
1927-1947 Niels Andersen (1900-efter 1965) (III-A3.B17.C4.D2)*
He was the above III-A3.B17.C4 Kasper Diernæs Myrup son-in-law. He got married in 1926 to III-A3.B17.C4.D2 Martine Kristensen Madsbøl (1894-1965). Deed of 9th of November 1927 of parcel no. 88a, 88c, 2h, 2l, 2m for 7000 kroner from Kasper Myrup. And another deed of 9th of November 1927 of parcel no. 27b and 2c for 700 kroner from Kasper Myrup. Furthermore, a deed of 17th of July 1930 of parcel no. 30g from Kasper Myrup and his siblings. In 1933 he bought parcel no. 43b, 44b and 22e for 575 kroner from Jens Olesen Larsen.
In 1933 the parcel no. 88f, 88g, 88h and 88i were sold to the State for plantation, and he sold parcel no. 30g to the State. In 1934 he sold parcel no. 2m and 2r, and in 1936 parcel no. 2h and 2l. In 1940 he sold parcel no. 88k to the State. In 1947 he sold Myrupgård. Deed of 23rd of August 1947 of parcel no. 88a, 88c, 27b, 24c, 26r, 22e, 43b, 44b from Niels Andersen to Gunnar W. Schmith. With that Myrupgård came out of the family. In the census from 1930 they lived in Glæde, parcel no. 88a with his parents-in-law on pension. In 1940 it was called Lild Klit, parcel no. 88a.
Myruphus parcel number 89, Lild Parish, Vester Han Herred
An estate must have owned Myruphus until 1784. The below mentioned was copyholders at Myruphus until 1784. Parcel no. 88d and 88e became later a part of Myruphus’s land.

≈ 1631 Christen Nielsen Fröst?
From ‘Hannæs Birk Tingbog’ (a legal book with summaries from the Hannæs jurisdiction) from 1631-1686 we know that he was married to Sidsel Akselsdatter. In 1631 was Christen Nielsen Fröst in Myrup mentioned regarding an inheritance on behalf of Maren Nielsdatter. In 1664 Christen Nielsen in Myrup, married to Sidsel Axelsdatter, died. Sidsel Axelsdatter in Myrup is mentioned in the parish registers as godmother during the period 1664-1669. It is a pure guess if he lived at Myruphus. Myrup in this context can mean the village Myrup.
≈ 1665? Niels Christensen?
Niels Christensen in Myrup is mentioned in ’Hannæs Birk Tingbog’ in 1657. Maybe he is the same Niels Christensen in Myrup, who had a daughter Zidsel in 1665. Niels Christensen in Myrup is mentioned as godfather during the period 1664-1669 in the parish registers. It is a pure guess if he lived at Myruphus. Myrup in this context can mean the village Myrup.
Before 1730-1743 Christen Nielsen Myrup (1689-1743) (II-Forefather)
He was married to Maren Andersdatter (1687-1765). Maybe he was a son of the above Niels Christensen. He had a son in 1730 'in Myrup' and he probably was a copyholder of Myruphus at that time.
1743-c.1749 Maren Andersdatter (1687-1765)
She was the widow after Christen Nielsen in Myrup who died in 1743. Their son Niels Christensen was then only 13 years old and could not have taken over the copyhold. She could have married again with someone who could take care of the copyhold until the son was old enough, but I have not found any evidence of that.
C.1749-c.1774 Niels Christensen Myrup (1730-1799) (II-Ancestors)
Son of the above Christen Nielsen Myrup. He was only 13 years old when his father died. He got married to Maren Pedersdatter (1715-1778) before 1749. He took over the copyhold from his mother, when he was old enough, probably in 1749 when his son was born ’in Myrup’. ”Niels Myrup in Myruphus” died in 1799.
C.1774-1829 Christen Nielsen Myrup (1750-1829) (II-A2)
He was son of the above II-Ancestor Niels Myrup. He got married 1st time c. 1773 to Kirsten Jensdatter (1751-1814) from Lild Parish. He god married 2nd time in 1816 to Johanne Jensdatter (1780-1851) from Østerild Parish. He is mentioned 'in Myrup' at his son’s birth in 1774. Deed of 16th of June 1784 from Niels Pedersen in Aagaard, ”a patch of land … situated close to the boundary to the Myrup property on the south and west side”. Aagaard could be the estate that owned Myrupgård and Myruphus, before they were bought to freehold. Purchase price 10 rigsdaler. According to the census 1787 Christen Nielsen lived in Nørklit (i.e. Myruphus) and was a smallholder and fisherman. They had 3 children and his father. In 1801 they lived in Nørklit (i.e. Myruphus), and he was a smallholder with land. They had two children. ”Christen Nielsen, smallholder at Myruphus” died in 1829. At that time his 3 grown-up children had moved to other farms and houses and did not take over Myruphus.
1829-1833 Johanne Jensdatter (1780-1851) (II-A2)*
She was the widow of the above II-A2 Christen Nielsen Myrup. She, ‘a smallholder widow in Myruphus’, got married in 1832 to Niels Christian Jensen Rødbro (1770-1843), smallholder in Klim Parish. Probate court certificate as title for the widow of 8th of June 1836 and marriage certificate of 8th of June 1836. The latter made her second husband to her legal guardian and gave him the right to sell the house.
1833-1836 Jens Sørensen (1797- c.1870)
He was from Tved Parish and married to Bente Marie Pallesdatter (1800-c.1855) from Lild Parish. Deed of 10th of July 1833 from Niels Christian Jensen Rødbro in Klim Parish. ”A house Myruphus situated at Myrup property”. Purchase price 400 rigsdaler. In 1834 they lived in ’Myruphuse (-houses), a house’, and he made a living of his land and fishing. They had a foster son.
1836-1847 Søren Christian Nielsen (1812-1847) (III-A9.B7)*
He was from Øsløs Parish and son-in-law of III-A9 Niels Nielsen Myrup at Myrupgård. He got married in 1836 to III-A9.B7 Anna Margrethe Nielsdatter (1812-1884). Deed of 13th of August 1836 from Jens Sørensen, ”…a house called Myruphus situated at Myrup property”. Purchase price 200 rigsdaler. Little Myruphus parcel number 88b, Lild Parish, Vester Han Herred
The first time Little Myruphus is mentioned in the parish register is in 1820. It is possible, that several families lived as tenants in a house on Myrupgård’s land before 1858, when Little Myruphus was parceled out and sold by Christen Jensen Vabesgaard, the owner of Myrupgård. It is not possible to know for certain. But Little Myruphus is mentioned in the parish registers from the beginning of the 1800’s. 3 families can have lived as tenants at Little Myruphus before 1858. My best guess from censuses and parish registers is that Poul Pedersen Horn lived as a tenant at Little Myruphus, and that his son-in-law took over the tenancy while other families lived with him in the house too. Anders Poulsen Horn is mentioned at Little Myruphus several times, but in the later years at Havkarlshus, so maybe he and his family had lived at Havkarlshus all the time. The family is in list though.

When Kirsten Christensdatter got married 2nd time in 1820 to Just Christensen (1796-1855), she was a widow ’in Myruphus’. Her daughter Anne Cathrine Poulsdatter Horn (1797-1861), sister to the below mentioned Anders Poulsen Horn, got married to Just Christensen’s brother Lars Christensen Tørslev (1795-1849) from Kollerup Parish in 1823 and is then mentioned in the parish register as ’home in Little Myruphus’. Niels Nielsen Myrup’s daughter III-A9.B3 Karen Nielsdatter Myrup (1807-1890) and her husband Anders Poulsen Horn (1799-1840), who made a living by fishing, lived according to the parish registers in Little Myruphuse or Myruphus in the period 1827-1840. When Karen Nielsdatter got married in 1847 to Anders Nielsen Vigh (1809-1880), they lived in ’Havkarlshus near Myrup’ in the period 1847-1850 according to the parish registers.
