The village of Myrup


Myrup is situated in Vester Han Herred in Northern Jutland close to the little village of Glæde in Lild Parish. Today Myrup only consists of a two winged farm, Myrupgård (gård = farm), used as a summer cottage, but 340 years ago Myrup was still a little village.


Myrup as a place name is very old.


Myrup is together with Nørklit and Bulbjerg mentioned as one of the three villages that had been sanded in 1590. Thy, Vester and Øster Han Herred are those parts of the country that have been most devastated by the sand drifting through time.

The families in Myrup

1650-1950


Myrup has once constituted more than just the farm Myrupgård and a house Myruphus. Also the neighbors in Lild Klit, as the area later is called, was in the parish register named as ’in Myrup’, relating to the village Myrup.

 


At the end of the 1700’ies, in Myrup there was a farm – Myrupgård and a house – Myruphus. In the 1800ies there were several houses ‘In Myrup’. Instead of Myrup, the parish register and censuses often mentioned the nearby villages Glæde, Nørklit and Bjerget, which can be confusing.

Owners of Myrupgård and Myruphus


In the Danish Cadastral Archive, I found an old map that was the base for the 1844 cadastral. On this map Myrupgård has 3 buildings and next to the farm is written Niels Nielsen. Just south of the farm is Myrup-hus with the name Christen Myrup written next to it. On the old map the parcel 88 was (with a newer handwriting) later...
